App Store DSA trader status for apps in the EU

Since February 17, 2025, apps without trader status are removed from the App Store in the European Union until trader status is provided and verified, to comply with the Digital Services Act. Apple’s help page says that even if you do not distribute in the EU you still need to declare a trader status. Apple has required trader status to submit app updates in the EU since October 16, 2024.

App Store

Who is concerned

All developers are asked to declare. You must confirm your trader status if you have at least one app on the App Store in the EU that qualifies you as a trader.

If you only distribute through alternative distribution, TestFlight or on the App Store outside the EU, Apple says you are not acting as a trader on the App Store.

What changes

  • Articles 30 and 31 of the DSA require Apple to verify and display trader contact information: an address, phone number and email address, shown on the product page in the 27 EU territories once verified.
  • Organizations: the address associated with the D-U-N-S number is displayed automatically and you enter a phone number and an email address. Individuals enter an address or P.O. box, a phone number and an email address.
  • All traders provide payment account details if they are not already in App Store Connect, and certify that they only offer products or services that comply with EU law.
  • If you are not a trader, consumers in the EU are told that consumer rights from consumer protection laws do not apply to contracts between you and them.

What to do

  • Self-assess: Apple lists factors such as revenue from the app (in-app purchases, paid or ad-sponsored), commercial practices toward consumers, VAT registration and acting in a professional capacity. Apple cannot decide for you and suggests a legal advisor if you are unsure.
  • In App Store Connect (Account Holder or Admin), enter the DSA compliance information. When you submit a new app, Apple asks you to disclose whether you are a trader.
  • You can turn off or specify trader status for each app.

What happens after the date

Apple’s entry says apps without trader status are removed from the App Store in the EU until the status is provided and verified.

Frequently asked questions

Is it the same as Google’s trader declaration?

It is a parallel obligation under EU law. Google Play requires all developer accounts to declare trader status by February 1, 2027.

Do hobbyists have to be traders?

Apple says you are unlikely to be a trader if you act outside your trade, business, craft or profession, for example a hobbyist with no intention of commercializing the app. Apple cannot determine it for you.

What is shown to users?

For traders, a verified address, phone number and email address, on the product page in the EU territories.
