App Store updated age rating questions

Who is concerned

Every app owner with an app on the App Store. The required roles in App Store Connect are Account Holder, Admin, App Manager or Marketing.

What changes

• Ratings for all apps and games were updated automatically to Apple’s new age rating system.
• The questionnaire lists content descriptors, in-app controls and capabilities, and you specify the frequency or presence of each in your app. Apple derives a global age rating and region-specific ratings where required.
• An Unrated app cannot be published on the App Store.
• You can raise the calculated rating with Override to Higher Age Rating, choose Made for Kids if the calculated rating is 4+ or 9+, and give an Age Suitability URL.
• Apple documents region-specific values for Australia, Brazil and Korea.

What to do

• In App Store Connect: Apps, your app, General, App Information, Age Ratings, Set Up Age Ratings.
• Select the in-app controls and capabilities, answer each content section with the right frequency, then check the calculated rating.
• If your app has a EULA with a minimum age above the calculated rating, override to a rating that matches.
• Review the per-region ratings on the App Information page.

What happens after the date

Apple’s entry says to answer by January 31, 2026 to avoid an interruption when submitting updates, and Apple lists it as in force. Apple later added the social media capabilities question, required from September 2026, to the same questionnaire.
